10 simple wedding flower tips

Flower Tips for Bluffdale wedding receptions

The main focal attraction at your reception, other than the bride and groom, is your flowers!  Many wedding venues require that clients use their own floral shop, but Western Gardens’ two reception centers, Ivy House and Atrium Weddings, believe in giving the bride full freedom in who she wants to do her flowers.  We recommend, but don’t require, Hillside Floral. Whether you choose a professional or do your flowers yourself, be sure to read these top 10 tips to have greater success at your beautiful celebration!

1. The Basic Wedding Flowers – bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, corsages for mothers, boutonnieres for fathers.

2. Beyond the Basics for Wedding party – Maid of honor’s or matron of honor’s bouquet, bridesmaids’ bouquets, best man and groomsmen’s boutonnieres, hair piece and rose petals for the flower girl or girls.

3. Reception Floral needs – table centerpieces, simplified bouquet for the bridal bouquet toss, flowers on a guest book table, and cake flowers.   Floral arrangements for a food buffet table may be considered.

4. Your theme and colors often can be incorporated in the flower selection process.  Consider the types of flowers, colors, ribbons, greenery and accents to be used.  Your flowers will reflect your personality to your guests.  A bridal bouquet is the final touch of the bride’s gown completing the look.  Flowers also help capture the theme of a wedding albeit romantic, elegant, rustic, modern, extravagant to simple.  Whether you choose unconventional orchids to classic roses, your flowers will communicate to your guests a lot about you.

5. Keeping the flower budget reasonable can be done by remembering that it is less expensive to select in-season flowers and if possible, flowers that are locally grown.  You may need to improvise and compromise to work with the flowers and colors in the season of your wedding, but this may help you afford more flowers for your beautiful day or help you spend more money in another area that is more important to you.  Being open-minded and willing to work with your florist can save a lot of headache and money.

6. Considering your wedding reception venue is important too.  Utah reception centers that already have some live greenery, won’t need as much floral design as a venue with only walls and floor.  Brides that book with Atrium Weddings and Ivy House at Western Gardens discover that they don’t have to spend as much on floral decorations as at other wedding venues. This tends to please whoever is paying the bill.

7. Choosing a florist that will assist you for both the ceremony wedding venue and the wedding reception center for your celebration.   This will help you deal with one single florist who can create one cohesive theme for your entire day.  These professionals guide and advise you about the best flowers to suit your needs.  Another technique is to supplement flowers with additional less expensive greenery, feathers, pearls, or artistic elements.

8. Don’t forget to ask about vases.  Do you rent them from your florist?  Do you purchase them with the cost of the arrangements?  This is important to know as some brides send floral arrangements home with guests or wedding party members as a gift.

9. Who does the setting up of the floral pieces?  Is this included in the price?  Do you need to arrange for a friend to pick up and set up the flowers?  Do you get a discount if you do arrange a friend to do this part for you?  If the vases are rented, how do you return them after the event?  Does the florist come take down the floral arrangements?   It is very important to know these details ahead of time.

Affordable wedding venues that let you do your own flowers

10. Many brides dry or preserve their bridal bouquets. Ask if your florist provides this service.  Inquiring ahead of time and planning ahead will help preserve the bouquet while it is still vibrant and fresh.

Flowers are a vital part of your wedding celebration.  If you choose one of Western Garden’s two wedding reception venues in Utah,  you can use their recommended florist or use your own.  Some brides have an aunt or a dear friend that love to do flowers and that is fine with us.  But whether you choose us or one of the many Utah wedding venues that require using their in-house florist, take heed of these 10 tips for a less-stress wedding day!

Beautiful Wedding Ceremony and Reception in Midvale

Couple at outdoor wedding ceremonyAtrium Weddings at Western Gardens Sandy is centrally located along the Wasatch Front. In fact many search engines list us that you can hold your beautiful wedding ceremony and reception in Midvale, which is not often considered.   From downtown Midvale, we are 4 miles east and about an eight minute drive.  Atrium Weddings is the wedding reception center where Mariah and Jeffrey officially began their life together in July.

The couple chose to have their outside ceremony on Atrium’s waterfall plaza with over 125 family and friends as witnesses.  Our Atrium host orchestrated their music during the beautiful event using the music the bride pre-determined on her own iPod .

Afterwards, the wedding party hosted a reception that few will forget.  Angela’s Catering, one of Atrium’s preferred caterers, provided sandwiches, fruit, and other delicious finger foods.  Mariah also chose another Atrium favorite preferred vendor, Cindy Crump cake designer.  Her company is Heritage Cakes and a lot of our brides hire her for her talent, professionalism, and value.   Mariah chose a simple yet elegant white buttercream frosted three-tiered cake adorned with green satin ribbon and beautiful purple orchids.  The glistening silver Mr. & Mrs. cake topper set it off just right!

Mariah’s beautiful combination of vibrant colors for her reception reflected the couple’s vibrant character.  A bright lime green and a striking purple were her choices.  Her florist was The Flower Patch who did a nice job of reflecting those colors in the bouquets and the boutonnieres for the wedding party.  The professional photographer was Heather Sprague. After the traditional cake cutting, bridal bouquet toss, the garter fling, and the first dances, the guests enjoyed dancing and socializing until the Atrium sparkler send off from this close to Midvale wedding venue.

Wedding receptions in Midvale, or at least close to Midvale, include Atrium Weddings in nearby Sandy.  We are one of the few reception centers in the valley that allow for self-catering.  But Mariah went with one of our recommended vendors whom we have trust and confidence in for our Atrium Brides.  Become an Atrium Bride!

Realize now that crazy things can and often do happen on your wedding day.  But if you plan ahead and choose a good wedding reception center, like one of the Utah wedding venues run by Western Gardens called Atrium Weddings, then chances of having a perfect wedding day is dramatically increased.  Let the wedding professionals worry about all those little things, so that you and your beau can focus on the things only you can do. For example….

On our wedding day, much like most other days, there are some laughable moments. You know, those moments that don’t seem very funny at the time but you can laugh about them later. Whether you like it or not, there will be a few of those moments on your big day. On my incredible day one of those moments was when my husband forgot to shave his face.

We had a few minutes to talk before getting ready for the ceremony. So we talked for a little bit telling each other how excited and nervous we both were. As I went to give him a kiss I noticed that he had forgotten to shave that morning. I touched his face and he realized his mistake. He told me how he was so nervous and had so much on his mind that he needed to remember to do that day that he did not even think about shaving. I guess he forgot to look in the mirror as well!  He was sincerely apologetic. We thought about sending for a shaver, but at that point it was too close to the ceremony to do anything about it. So we just had to go on as if nothing was wrong. Luckily, the hair on his face is light and not easily noticeable on camera. He did end up getting many comments about his lack of shaving, but his sisters were especially amused by it.

An “Enchanted” Celebration at Atrium Weddings, One of the Wedding Venues Salt Lake City and Sandy Enjoys!

Enchanted couple dancing at Salt Lake Wedding venues. One of the most “enchanted” wedding venues Salt Lake City includes is Atrium Weddings at Western Gardens in Sandy.  This princess bride, whom I will adoringly call Giselle and her new husband Prince Edwards , celebrated their magical day with many of their favorite things.  They served the guests of the kingdom fresh fruit and cookies to cover with chocolate from a 4-tiered chocolate fountain.  A fountain sentry stood guard to ensure the guests that no little fingers or double dipping took place.  Homemade chocolate eclairs were also on the menu with other finger pastries.

Guests enjoyed the couple’s favorite songs over Atrium’s sound system using a playlist from the bride’s ipad. After the cutting of the cake and the first dance with Prince Edwards, Giselle and a bride’s maid began a dance routine to the “Enchanted” movie theme song “Ever After”.  Both twirled and laughed.  What a perfect moment capturing the joy of this bride marrying her Prince with true love’s kiss.  These two newlyweds have begun their happily-ever-after storybook marriage.

February 24, 2012 – An Early Spring Utah Wedding Reception in the Eve of Winter

Happy couple at a Utah Wedding reception venueThis bride looked at many wedding venues in Utah before choosing the Atrium wedding reception center for her late winter reception.  Walls of lush green plants frame a majestic hall where guests gather to sign the guest book, greet the wedding party, and linger to enjoy delicious refreshments.  The guests entered through grand doors and were directed to the guest book table complete with photos of the couple.  Included in base price - a sash of the newlyweds first namesThe entrance included the archway displaying the couples first names on a ribbon.  The line to greet the newlyweds was enjoyable because of a big screen TV slide showing bridal shots, and engagement photos.  The couple greets their guests in front of a beautiful and cozy fireplace and hearth, and after hugs, kisses, and words of congratulations, the guests flow to the refreshment buffet tables.

While guests socialized and enjoyed their refreshments, they were entertained with beautiful music from a friend pianist at the grand piano and views of waterfalls and gorgeous plants around the room.  The centerpieces on the tables were also a point of interest with pictures of the bride and groom backdropped with classy candles and purple ribbons.  A very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere was enjoyed by all, especially the bride’s mother and father!

This elegant and beautiful Utah wedding was a great success.  Around 600 guests came and celebrated this special day with the new couple in this beautiful venue.  This is one of the largest receptions Atrium Weddings has hosted.  This Utah Wedding Reception Center fits a lot of people comfortably.

Bride’s Perfect Colors at Atrium Weddings in Salt Lake City

Bright and outgoing is the mood of this bride!

For Salt Lake wedding receptions, most typically, brides have their reception colors chosen long before there is a ring on her finger!  You have probably dreamed of your most special day in certain colors since you were in elementary school.  Your colors are you!

Color is very important to your event.  The colors you use in your wedding reception tells more about you than you may realize.  Color reflects your mood and personality and sets a tone for all the guests at your celebration.  For example, reds and yellows and oranges set an exciting and fun ambiance, while greens and blues create a feeling of harmony and peace.  Metallic colors portray elegance and sophistication.   With your color scheme, you will be directing the aura and the flow of your ceremony and celebrations.

Simple deep blue with white ribbon accent was beautiful

Sometimes the season of the year can enhance your wedding reception.  Say you want red in your color scheme, but it’s a spring wedding.  Add yellow and green to your red with maybe a touch of orange and it fits into the feel of new spring growth.  But then again, simple red and white with the greens of spring can be an elegant spring mixture. Whereas, if you have a winter wedding reception, red with black and white is a popular stunning combination.

Red with black and white is simple elegance

Salt Lake City wedding venues are varied in styles and the venue you choose should be considered when finalizing your colors.  If you are holding your event in a garden setting, like Atrium Weddings in Salt Lake City, the variety of plants already offer a sea of greens that can be accented with your spring yellows and pinks.  A garden center also lends itself to winter celebrations, again because the green decor is already present.  Accent with your reds with black and white, and you have a memorable beautiful celebration at a magical time of year.

Whether you are getting married spring, fall, summer, or winter, you can use your favorite colors to create that perfect mindset for your guests, reflecting the joy you are feeling that day at your Salt Lake City wedding.

Three W’s of Wedding Reception Center Planning – When? Where? and What?

Okay, you’ve decided that you want your wedding celebration at a reception center, rather than in your backyard or the church gymnasium.  The next step of planning your wedding reception can seem like an overwhelming task.  But if you break it down into simple, easy-to-tackle sections, the process becomes exciting and fun.  You’ll find yourself enjoying the journey culminating in an incredible wedding celebration, your final destination.   Here is how I break the tasks down to size.  Don’t forget to use your choice of a central note-taking tool.  A pad of paper works well, or an electronic tool like a smart phone, or tablet of your choice.  Always have this with you as you make plans, it will save your mind and your time in the long run.

I like to break the first part of planning in to the three W’s – When, Where, and What.  They are pretty big and important parts of the planning, but you can figure them all in one sit-down brainstorming session with your fiancé.  Be prepared to possibly make some little changes along the way, but you’ve got to have a starting point.  The When? Where? and What? is the beginning.

First is to decide WHEN you are having your big day.  It is good to have a couple of date possibilities, but knowing this is crucial for the next decision of WHERE.  You don’t want to waste your time looking for that perfect wedding venue unless you have an idea of when your event is to take place. Imagine finally making a choice of where you want your most important event to happen, only to find out that it is already booked for the day you’ve finally decided upon.  Wedding places in Utah book up quickly, so don’t let this first step pass too quickly.  Get your preferences and start the search of your perfect venue that can replicate your dream wedding.

Beautiful celebrations happen in reception centers in Salt Lake City like Atrium Weddings
Atrium Weddings reception center in Salt Lake Valley is a beautiful option for your celebration

As mentioned above, the WHERE is now in play.  Google your search as specific as you can.  Some suggested keywords to search could be “wedding reception centers” or “wedding venues” and if you want a particular area, add that city.  For example “wedding reception centers Salt Lake City” or “wedding reception centers in Salt Lake City” will help you narrow your quest to more specific options in your area.  Browse those venues that catch your eye and make your list of top places you want to pursue.  Request more information by email, if only to simply test that company’s responsiveness.  A very good first question to ask would be to check on the availability of that venue for the couple of dates you’ve chosen. This could prove very important in the future if you choose to work with them.  Your search will narrow, it is time to go visit the venues you’ve listed as your top possibilities.  Now it’s time to consider the WHAT’s of your quest.

Ice cream is a popular choice at Ivy House Weddings
Ice Cream is always a hit with everyone!
Colorful salads look beautiful in Atrium Weddings reception center in Salt Lake City
Colorful salads are refreshing works of art!

Third, WHAT are you going to do for your special celebration?  Serve a full course dinner?  Serve only finger foods?  Dance?   Play games?  Serve only your wedding cake?  These are the kind of questions only YOU and your lover can imagine for YOUR special day.

Deciding these three w’s is the first step, then it will be time to do the how’s, but not until these three are complete.  For now, go out and find your dream wedding reception center!  You’ll have plenty to do after you get these three W’s completed!   Reminder!  Don’t forget to keep your wedding writing tool handy!
