Ten Wedding Flower Tips at Utah Wedding Venues

Wedding venues in Utah that give good wedding flower tips to followThe main focal attraction at your reception, other than the bride and groom, are your flowers!  Many utah wedding venues require that clients use their own floral shop, but Western Garden’s two reception centers believe in giving the bride full freedom in who she wants to do her flowers.  We recommend, but don’t require, Hillside Flowers. Whether you choose a professional or do your flowers yourself, be sure to read these top 10 tips to know and remember as you plan your beautiful celebration!

1.  The Basic Wedding Flowers – bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, corsages for mothers, boutonnieres for fathers.

2.  Beyond the Basics for Wedding party – Maid of honor’s or matron of honor’s bouquet, bridesmaids’ bouquets, best man and groomsmen’s boutonnieres, hair piece and rose petals for the flower girl or girls.

3.  Reception Floral needs – table centerpieces, simplified bouquet for the bridal bouquet toss, flowers on a guest book table, and cake flowers.   Floral arrangements for a food buffet table may be considered. wedding venues in utah with lemon wreaths 4.  Your theme and colors often can be incorporated in the flower selection process.  Consider the types of flowers, colors, ribbons, greenery and accents to be used.  Your flowers will reflect your personality to your guests.  A bridal bouquet is the final touch of the bride’s gown completing the look.  Flowers also help capture the theme of a wedding albeit romantic, elegant, rustic, modern, extravagant to simple.  Whether you choose unconventional orchids to classic roses, your flowers will communicate to your guests a lot about you.

5.  Keeping the flower budget reasonable can be done by remembering that it is less expensive to select in-season flowers and if possible, flowers that are locally grown.  You may need to improvise and compromise to work with the flowers and colors in the season of your wedding, but this may help you afford more flowers for your beautiful day or help you spend more money in another area that is more important to you.  Being open-minded and willing to work with your florist can save a lot of headache and money. Utah wedding reception hall with lots of greenery 6.  Considering your reception venue is important too.  Utah reception centers that already have some live greenery, won’t need as much floral design as a venue with only walls and floor.  Brides that book with Atrium Weddings and Ivy House at Western Gardens discover that they don’t have to spend as much on floral decorations as at other Salt Lake City wedding venues. This tends to please whoever is paying the bill.

7.  Choosing a florist that will assist you for both the ceremony wedding venue and the wedding reception center for your celebration.   This will help you deal with one single florist who can create one cohesive theme for your entire day.  These professionals guide and advise you about the best flowers to suit your needs.  Another technique is to supplement flowers with additional less expensive greenery, feathers, pearls, or artistic elements. Wedding reception centers sometimes provide the vases. 8.  Don’t forget to ask about vases.  Do you rent them from your florist?  Do you purchase them with the cost of the arrangements?  This is important to know as some brides send floral arrangements home with guests or wedding party members as a gift.

9.  Who does the setting up of the floral pieces?  Is this included in the price?  Do you need to arrange for a friend to pick up and set up the flowers?  Do you get a discount if you do arrange a friend to do this part for you?  If the vases are rented, how do you return them after the event?  Does the florist come take down the floral arrangements?   It is very important to know these details ahead of time.

10. Many brides dry or preserve their bridal bouquets. Ask if your florist provides this service.  Inquiring ahead of time and planning ahead will help preserve the bouquet while it is still vibrant and fresh.

Flowers are a vital part of your Utah wedding celebration.  If you choose one of Western Garden’s two wedding reception venues in Utah,  you can use their recommended florist or use your own.  Some brides have an aunt or a dear friend that love to do flowers and that is fine with us.  But whether you choose us or one of the many Utah wedding venues that require using their in-house florist, take heed of these 10 tips for a less-stress wedding day!

wedding reception centers in Utah that allow self-cateringMadison and Zach enjoyed their approximate 300 guests at one of the wedding reception venues in Utah that is run by Western Garden Centers called Atrium Weddings.

They enjoyed a self-catered event during which close friends supplied sliders, salads, chips, fruit, and finger desserts.  Notice the absolutely gorgeous fondant covered Mr. and Mrs. sugar cookies.  Madison opted to use Atrium’s elegant dishware package for her buffet style setting.  This wedding reception was all a family affair as the cake was created by Madison’s sweet mother Vanisha.  They took advantage of the beautiful baby grand piano and invited a pianist for live music for part of the evening.  The florist was Lauren Richardson.  Their photographer was Emily Whitehead and their videographer was Brad Winegar.

Not all wedding reception centers in Utah allow such flexibility for the bride and groom and their families.  We were honored to be a part of Madison and Zach’s beautiful beginning.

The Mother of the Bride left us the following comment:  Thanks for having a facility and staff that allowed me to do what I wanted.

outdoor wedding reception venues with self-catered waffle barWedding Waffles anyone?  This was the most well thought out and organized waffle bar I have seen as any of the Utah wedding venues I have attended. Waffles and toppings were kept warm and fresh.  There were many toppings to choose from and they were well identified so there was no guessing as to what you were choosing.

Guests also enjoyed a delicious Italian soda bar with their waffles.  What a hit!  Again, the fun colorful signage left no doubt of the choices.  Wedding places in Utah like Atrium create an ambiance of a garden wedding, so this one was like eating breakfast out in the garden.

Tysha and Mason greeted over 400 guests; they were expecting nearly 450, so I would say that was pretty good planning.  These guests first found the sign-in table was actually covered by a large quilt put together by the family.  There were plenty of permanent fabric markers and guests signed their names and wrote little notes to the couple.  What a beautiful and useful item this couple will enjoy, especially as they go on picnics or go sit in the park for a concert!  Snuggling in a blanket full of such love and advice from so many loved ones and memories of their first day together.  I would imagine that this was the most thoughtful long lasting wedding celebration gift for the newlyweds of all the weddings at any of the wedding reception venues in Utah that day.

Linens consisted of a white base and a tiffany blue pin tuck topper.  On the buffet table a topper in a cool green mint was the accent.  The guest tables were dotted with beautiful photos of the couple around bouquets of flowers created by Tysha’s grandmother.  With the touch of several blue chiffon sashes to accent throughout the garden, this finished off the decorations.

Tysha’s cake was designed and created by Bay Shore Cakes and reflected again her unique style and elegance.  Three pure white tiers with three different styles on each layer.  One with shades of blue zig-zags, one with white layered discs, and the top just a smooth fondant topped with beautiful orange rose bouquet with white baby’s breath.  A stunning work of art that reflected the class of this couple at this Utah wedding reception.

Color, color, color!  Wedding reception venues in Utah like Atrium weddings, allow brides to use their own florists, cake designers, and caterers for their wedding receptions. This bride introduced to Atrium the most vibrant color scheme to our wedding venue in the last seven years of countless celebrations.  The striking blue delphiniums and hydrangeas, coral and pink roses, yellow freesias and hydrangeas, deep orange alstroemeria, bright purple stocks, and lemon leaf greens came together to dazzle the eye.

This color pallet was carried throughout the wedding reception hall with similar floral arrangements on the guest sign-in table and the beautiful flowers placed on the wedding cake.  The bride’s cake was a three tiered simple smooth white cake with tiffany blue satis ribbons accenting around the base of each tier.  Simple and so elegant!

The bride chose Atrium’s tall silver candle stick centerpiece, which is one of the choices that comes with the basic rental package, which was placed in the middle of a lemon leaf wreath. Additional flowers of the same scheme were placed around and throughout the lemon leaves.

Wedding Venues in Utah with Real Events 05-02-2014

salt lake city wedding venues with decorating optionsI learned a new term today about decorating at wedding venues in Utah and using different mediums of fabric.  Atrium Weddings at Western Gardens Sandy, Utah, is a wedding reception center that includes many tables with base linens and toppers.  Brides can upgrade and order sashes to tie on chairs or use in their decorating according to their own style and flair.  Jessica and Mitchell celebrated their union at Atrium on May 2, 2014.  She ordered sashes and mixed up how she used them on her tables.

wedding venue centerpiece optionsBride Jessica chose Atrium’s standard candle centerpieces with  freshly sliced lemons propped against the candle inside the glass.  On some tables, she used the Atrium’s lemon leaf wreath and loosely ribboned the sash under the wreath.  On other tables, she used the base candle again with the yellow lemons, but wrapped the sash loosely around the base of the glass forming a light and airy “cloud”.  (see title photo above)  This “sash clouding” with a touch of coral rose petals upon the yellow linen tablecloth, gave such a delicate and soft touch to this Utah wedding reception center.

utah wedding venues for the new year and new couplesUtah wedding venues like the Atrium reception center in Sandy host beautiful family celebrations all year round.  On January 1st, Brinley and Ross had a beautiful ceremony in the early evening and then enjoyed their Utah wedding reception soon there after.  Their family catered the reception with delicious homemade finger foods.  Some wedding reception venues in Utah don’t allow for self-catering.  Both of Western Garden’s Utah wedding reception centers do let family self-cater.  A favorite aunt created their beautiful cake and an aunt of the groom provided the flowers.  Their photographer was Jaffa photography.  What a beautiful couple and what a wonderful way to ring in the new year,….together!

Tuesday Tips from Wedding Venues in Utah 7-1-14

Listen to Mother nature for Wedding Venues in UtahNew to Utah?  All brides need to realize that if planning a spring wedding, expect capricious Utah weather and plan accordingly.  Look at wedding venues in Utah that have options to hold your ceremony inside if a sudden thunderstorm develops during your wedding reception.  Believe me as one who grew up here in the valley and tried to hold her son’s wedding in our own back yard, spring storms can develop quickly here along the Wasatch Front. Therefore, following some tips here will help you avoid some annoyances and help insure a happy, dry, and cool event!

wedding venues in salt lake city with dancingSudden rain is not the only Utah weather phenomenon a Utah bride needs to consider.  Utah is in a desert and the heat can dampen a spring or summer celebration.  You may be one of those guests who have skipped out of a Utah wedding reception that was inside a tent or a reception center that was too unbearably hot for guests to enjoy.  And I have heard of a bride who fainted from the heat at her reception.  We all must admit that it isn’t any fun to be hot and sweaty at an elegant occasion, especially if there is dancing and toasting to be done.  It is well worth it if you can find wedding reception venues that have central air conditioning and good air movement.

Snow on mountains above wedding reception venues in utah Another great tip is to check the weather history along the Wasatch front.  Our local news station KSL has a great service to plug in a date you are considering for your outdoor wedding reception or any outdoor event.  Their program does the searching and then gives you the average information for that day in history.  Find out the average temperatures – highs and lows, the chance of precipitation, and even learn the sunrise and sunset.  Knowing when the perfect time to say your vows with the sun setting behind you would be fun to time for a gorgeous photo opportunity.  Find their “Wasatch Front Outdoor Weather Planner” on their KSL website.

weather planner for receptions centers in utah If you have always loved garden weddings but don’t want to worry about the weather, find those wedding venues with the garden feel indoors like Atrium Weddings at Western Gardens Sandy.  You don’t have to plant flowers, weed, or even water the place.  Just show up, do minor decorating to give it your own touch, and enjoy!  Let the storms rage outside the doors and watch the rain fall down the glass windows!  When there is a break in the storm, venture outside the waterfall plaza for some beautiful photos with your photographer, or simply take them inside with all the indoor greenery!

Wedding venues in Utah can be a real blessing when it comes to Utah’s fickle weather in the spring and summer.  Listen to Mother Nature and heed her warnings so that you can plan wisely for your incredible day.  You, your family, and your guests will have the wonderful day that you deserve!

Tuesday Tip from Wedding Reception Venues in Utah – Your Guest List

Wedding Reception Venues in Utah Tip about Your Guests

After you have set a date, the number of guests you anticipate inviting is your next quandary.  You must have a rough idea of your guest list so that as you research and visit the many wedding reception venues in Utah, you’ll make a wise choose that will accommodate your needs.  Depending on what type of event you are envisioning, will depend on how much room you’ll need.  If you want a simple sit down dinner with close family and friends, typically you should plan on about 25-30 square feet per person.  This allows you plenty of space for the dance floor, tables & chairs, cake display, set up for a band, etc.  As you visit the many Utah venues, be sure you inquire how many people they can accommodate for sit-down meals.

Sit-down meals are usually a small additional fee to an already booked event at a reception center.

If you are envisioning a flow-through reception, you can invite many more guests.  But still you’ll need to inquire about the capacity of the venue.  Consider parking for you and your guests and the flow of the room and space.  If your venue has a wise event planner, they will be able to make suggestions to you about how to stagger guests arrival as to avoid congestion in the line.

Many couples are now choosing to wander around the reception venues in Utah rather than stand in a line.  This is a new popular trend that allows the youthful couple to spend more time with their dear friends and family and allows their parents to spend more time with their close friends and family. Every event is different and you can make yours uniquely your own. It’s your day so plan it the way you want!

Some wedding venues in Utah, like Atrium Weddings at Western Gardens in Sandy, have hosted hundreds of events over the years and are so happy to share tips with you to help you save frustration, time and money.  But no matter the venue you choose, be sure to have in mind before you begin your venue quest a rough estimate of how many guests you anticipate.  Have your guest list in hand and ask about the capacity details.

Wedding Planners and Utah Wedding Venues

A wedding planner and host can help with the little challenges at the moment

Weddings are celebrations filled with anticipation, excitement, and beauty.  However, they can cause a lot of stress and pressure to the bride and her family.  She dreams of having a wedding that is “perfect” and will tirelessly work to achieve that goal.  A wise bride will get others involved to help her, especially by soliciting help from a wedding planner.  Often, Utah wedding venues have in-house wedding planners that come with the booking, but some charge extra for this service.  One way to ensure that you can fully enjoy your beautiful day and minimize your stress and hassle of the preparation, organizing and coordinating the day itself, is to use the wedding planner.  It will be well worth your time and efforts.  Here are some specific reasons why.

Be in two places at the same time. There seems to always be little issues that pop up at the last minute that need attention by someone in charge.  You will be getting yourself all beautified for the day and don’t need the stress of dealing with those last minute tasks.  You can’t be in two places at the same time, especially when you should be walking down the isle!  The wedding planner will take care of little things that can stress you out such as a missing bouquet, a tear in the bridal gown or a stain on the flower girl’s dress. Remember Jennifer Lopez in the movie The Wedding Planner?  A good wedding planner and a good wedding venue will be ready with their own emergency kit.  Also, if you already have employment, you will soon discover that planning a wedding can become a full time job. A wedding planner will ease a lot of these demands. This way, you can even have time to pamper yourself before your big day.

Save money by going with a wedding planner. Even though you may pay a little more for a professional wedding planner, you could be saving money in the long run.  He or she has already established relationships with wedding providers such as wedding reception venues, florists, cake designers, and photographers. If she is already part of the booking fee at a venue, that is a bonus savings for you.  Wedding planners may possibly be able to get discounts on your behalf. A planner with integrity will have her bride’s best interest at heart and only recommend professionals that offer great product for a good value.

Your wedding celebration will uniquely reflect your style and taste!

Save time with a wedding planner. Researching potential wedding providers can be time-consuming. Imagine the time it takes for you to choose the right florist, baker or caterer. With a wedding planner, you can already narrow down your choices as wedding planners have already proven these providers throughout their time in the business. Wedding planners also know where to find sources for  items you want included in your wedding – that means less time required for you to search out where to get that centerpiece you want or that cake topper you saw in a magazine.

Planners can show you many options to fit into your budget and style.

Benefit from the knowledge provided by the wedding planner. Wedding planners can provide you with valuable input as you decide on important parts of the wedding. They have experienced hundreds of wedding events so they are already aware of what can possibly happen so that you can prepare for contingencies. Will a particular flower last the entire ceremony? How can you set up your wedding venue in Utah in case it rains? These are some of the things that a wedding planner can give their advice on.

Wedding planners have time-tested methods. If you are willing to admit that you’re not the most organized person, a wedding planner is essential. After all, they are making a living out of being organized – they have their own methods to ensure that things are planned and implemented well. Aside from these, wedding planners are also in the know with regards to the latest wedding fashions.

Aside from an in-house wedding coordinator, Atrium Weddings, a premiere reception center in Utah, provides a full complement of wedding-related amenities such as a bride’s dressing room, buffet tables, tables and chairs for guests, an overall ambiance that’s romantic and also practical and much more.

Wedding Venues in Utah Can Help Cut Your Wedding Budget

Wedding Venues in Utah help with wedding budgets
Simple & Romantic flowers can help you stay within your budget

The most common challenge for most wedding couples is how to plan the celebration of their dreams while working within a tight budget.  There are a few Utah wedding venues that can actually be very budget friendly.  The following are some tips on how to cut your budget, including some ideas on what to look for before you choose your wedding venue.

  1. Don’t fight it!  Your budget can be viewed as a challenge to be met.  Make it a game!  It will not seem so overwhelming.
  2. Give and take with the choices that come before you.  Sometimes a little flexibility here and there will help you still achieve what you want, but for a little less money.
  3. Most wedding venues in Utah should provide you with a consultant for your celebration.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice.  A wedding planner has been involved with huge budget weddings and small budgets.  She can give you a lot of ideas, if you choose.

Does your venue include beverage servers or do those cost extra?
  4. Your wedding venue is the first big cost you’ll spend.  Be sure to look for a venue that includes as much as possible for a reasonable price.  Some locations rent only the space and then add set up, tables, linens, chairs, etc. to your ticket.  In contrast, the receptions centers at Western Garden Centers, include just about everything a bride needs for a beautiful event in their venue – a lot of tables, linens, chairs, set up, and even beautiful and stylish centerpieces are included.
  5. Remember who this party is for…..YOU!  If you continually remind yourself of this, it can save funds for other things you really want for your celebration.

Who are the most important people you must invite?
  6. Now it is time to check your guest list.  Invite only your closest relatives and friends.  If you can cut the number of guests, you’ll be cutting your costs for food, flowers for tables, guest favors, invitations, and even the size of your cake.  In the past, some brides and grooms have tried to please their parents and invite the whole world.  It’s okay to keep it intimate, especially if you have to work within a tight budget.
  7. There are a lot of little details that can be done personally by you or by close family and friends.  Labor is one of the biggest expenses for wedding events.  Remember that you have a Maid of Honor and that is her job, to help you with whatever she can for your beautiful day.  You can create your own wedding favors, menu cards, table signs, Our Story banners, etc.  Again, labor is usually the biggest cost, so get your family and bridesmaids helping you!

Having your Ceremony at the same location as your reception or dinner, can save you money and time!
  8. Booking your wedding ceremony and reception at the same wedding location will help cut your costs.  Some venues simply add a minimal cost to add on a ceremony to your already booked reception or dinner.  Be sure to find out what that same-day ceremony includes – additional hours, set-up, etc.

wedding cake at slc wedding venue
Slimming your wedding cake to only two tiers is a good idea. Simple can be elegant. Then order a sheet cake for the guests!
  9. Another great idea is to save on your wedding cake budget by ordering a smaller two tier cake.  The more tiers, the bigger expense.  Consider purchasing a sheet cake to serve your guests.

Fresh fruits are less expensive than a main course meal
  10. Your food menu is another place you can spend wisely.  Finger foods and appetizers typically are less money.  Also, a handful of venues allow for self-catering.  With today’s options at warehouse stores, this has been a viable option for many wedding parties.  Does your venue allow for self-catering?  Can you bring in your own caterer?  Many venues require you to use their caterers, cake designers, and florists.  Seek a venue that gives you more leeway in these areas.

Beautiful bridal bouquet with roses and lilies tied with satin ribbon
  11. Last but not least, your flowers can be inexpensive if you are willing.  Simple flowers can have a stunning effect on your guests.  I remember one bride who used only red roses.  It was stunning and very romantic.  Even her bridal bouquet was a dozen red roses and white baby’s breath bound with white satin ribbon.  Using greenery and flowers that are in season can also cut costs.  Some wedding venues in Utah offer candle lit centerpieces that do not require any additional flowers.  Some brides have simply used rose petals scattered around an elegant candle centerpiece.

Wedding budgets can be scary but they don’t have to be.  Face it head on and meet the challenge.  Prioritizing the items that are most important to you, will help you see where you can trim and cut.  Your biggest challenge can be to find a venue that is a good value with many of the trimmings you would have to add yourself if at another venue.  Atrium Weddings and Ivy House Weddings are two wedding reception venues in Utah that include a lot of beauty for an affordable rental price.
